Just wondering how ballet began

I love photography, especially that of nude males.  Their bodies, as those of ballet dancers, have an air of the countryside--an overwhelming, animalistic, and testosterone-scented fine-tuned Arabian horse...strong, lean, and muscular.  I suspect that, while not a student of the history of ballet, only an interested viewer--particularly Maurice Bejart's works and his company, ballet must have begun when someone noticed the movement and musculature of horses.  Can someone correct me or is there some basis for my assumption?
